Depression -There are various etilogies for depression:
The psychobiologic theory basically suggests that the biochemical and genetic factors are related to depression. That is, the alternations of chemicals (neurotransmitter), the genetic vulnerability; circadian rhythms disturances and the medications that may be altering the mood.
The cognitive theory proposes that depression manifests itself due to the negative cognitions you formed (stemming from childhood) - negative feelings about self, the world and the future.
The psychoanalytic theory (Freud) postulates that the various micro and macro systems influence the person to learned helplessness. For example, lack of praise dysfunctional family, passive attitude.
The transactional model assumes that when interaction of various biochemical, genetic , experiential and behavioral happen, it affects mood.
How did the depression start?
Research points out that depression is a disorder of the brain. There is no single known cause, but it seems that depression stems from a combination of genetic, biochemical, environmental and psychology issues.
Perhaps you are suffering from grief of a close relative, or you were bullied in school, or you were verbally abused by parents (caregivers), or have broken up with friend or relationship partner. Or you have any of the above-stated causes affecting you. Whatever the cause, you need help.

Individuals with anxiety disorders feel extremely fearful and unsure.
Most of us feel anxious at one point or another, but people with anxiety disorders feel anxious all of the time and it is hard for them to accomplish everyday tasks. Some of them are constantly worrying about events, people, they are unable to relax, have lack concentration, are easily startled, experience sleep disorders or have some of the following body symptoms:
- Feel tired for no reason
- Suffer headaches
- Have muscle tensions and aches
- Experience difficulty in swallowing
- Tremble or Twitch
- Are irritable at times
- Feel nausea
- Feel lightheaded
- Feel out of breath
- Have hot flashes
- Experience the need to go to the bathroom often
About 18% of Americans suffer from some form of anxiety. Children and adolescents also have anxiety disorders that affect their functioning.
Why Do People Get Anxiety Disorders?
Researchers are still investigating the etiology of anxiety disorders. However, there appears to be some evidence that some families tend to be more anxious. This leads to the theory that it may be someting that runs in families. There is a link between the chemicals in the brain not being at the correct level and a person having anxiety disorder.
When Does Anxiety Disorders Start?
Anxiety Disorders develop gradually starting in childhood and middle age. Sometimes the symptoms are better, but may get worse at different times of stress.
Treatment
There is help for anxiety disorders. The first step is to seek help by visiting the doctor to ensure that there are no other physical problems that may produce anxiety. A good treatment plan may include a combination of therapy, medication and psychoeducation.
It is thought that anxiety disorders affect cognitive abilities. People see things in a negative way.
In therapy, you will have an opportunity to dispute your negative talk and develop new positive thinking. You will also look for triggers that affect your thouhgts/reactions and work in developing ways to decrease your reactions to the triggers.
In therapy, you will also learn relaxation technqiues, such as: progressive muscle relaxation, deep breathing, and meditation.
